Steve King gave me the okay to publish his e-mail thanks to Jackson, which also gives you the flavor of his first visit to Kenya.  Daniel Sopia, a friend of Jackson’s and also from Oltorotua, was their guide on a short visit to Fig Tree Camp after visiting Oltorotua.

Good Morning Jackson,

I finally have some time to sit down and write you a note to thank you again for all of your efforts to make Frank’s and Steve’s and my trip to Kenya such an enjoyable and successful visit.  I enjoyed meeting all of the people of your village and greatly appreciate the honor bestowed on us by the butchering and roasting of the goat.  I found the meat to be very tasty.

I have attached a couple of photos for you and Daniel.  Daniel did a great job guiding us on safari and we really enjoyed the facilities and people at the Fig Tree Camp.  Thanks for making all of the arrangements for us.

My wife Karen and I, as well as everyone else here in Maryland are looking forward to your visit in April.

Please express my best wishes and gratitude to the leaders of your village for the impressive greeting and ceremony that they held in our honor.  I was very impressed by their hospitality, their friendship and their genuine desire to help make the clean water project a reality.  While in Kenya I had the opportunity to fully discuss the project with the Nakuru Rotarians and with Dan Odero and we came up with a number of ideas that could make the project more successful.   I also learned a lot from our visit to your village and from our discussions with you and the other members of your village that the other Rotarians and I will take into consideration to make the project more successful.

On this coming Monday evening I have a meeting with the District Grants Committee and the new committee Chairperson.  I plan to take the opportunity to brief her and the committee on the project so we can more quickly get their approval.

Take care and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Steve
