When I checked my Facebook page on Tuesday, I had a message from Laura Jappe.  Laura and I met for the first time last September.  We chatted about education and then, when I told her about the Oltorotua wells, she said her father had spent a long time in Kenya as a young man.  We bonded very quickly, with many things in common and had a wonderful conversation, but I hadn’t heard from her since then.  She had lost this URL and wanted to contribute to the wells in honor of her father’s 80th birthday.  Because of his fond memories of Kenya, she wrote that this is “the perfect gift.”  Isn’t that a warm and wonderful story for this season of light and hope?  Many thanks, Laura, and my very best wishes that he has many more happy birthdays.

This is a short post as the smell of spices wafting upstairs remind me that my pumpkin is almost done.  (We love pumpkin but rather than pie I use same recipe — thank you, Libby’s®– with half the sugar and we eat it as a vegetable.)  Whatever you enjoy for your holiday buffet during the next week, may it also include joy and hope in huge amounts, as Reverend Hughes said in last week’s sermon.  (Yes, I do listen, even tho’ I knit during the service.  Just a little ho-ho-honesty to end this post!)

And last, for more ho-ho-ho, me in my gnome hat that I finished yesterday.
