First, thanks to two new contributors:  Monica Greene and Dr. Cynthia Clement.  (Love to add names scrolling under the thermometer!)

Second:  News from Paul Kirui on Facebook and his blog that the rains are still unseasonably heavy in the Mara.  The downside of much rain is that the grasses grow tall and carnivores, like the cats, have trouble hunting because the prey they need to survive is well hidden. Paul writes that the lions are mobile because food is very scarce.  He says, “Game veiwing is fair, but it is a challenge to see enough.  Many animals, especially the resident herbivores, have converged into small herds in isolated pockets across the park. It is no suprise to drive for kilometres without seeing an animal, then suddenly you come across a herd.”

And last, altho’ the women of Oltorotua can collect rain water rather than walking miles, it is not pure and wells are still needed.
