Holiday madness combined with a major snowstorm seems to have put moving ahead with the well on hold. But my heart is still invested in this well so, while I wait to hear from some contacts, I’ll post photos Jackson sent me of the village women on their daily trek for water. Note the lack of greenness in the background. Jackson has reported some rain recently and things are greener now, but water will continue to be a problem, and, if experts are correct, will become a major world issue by mid-century.

Last evening my grandson John and some of his friends enjoyed a tailgating party before the Washington Redskins’ football game (well, given the final score, that turned out not to be very enjoyable). When they were getting food ready to take, John tossed a case of water in the trunk and wondered if they should stop at a store to get another case. No big deal, right? At least in the US. Most of us don’t realize how easy our life is compared to the lives of some in other cultures.

Is water a human right? Or should we just shrug and accept our good fortune for living in the US?
