News seem to be popping all over like kernels of popcorn in a hot pan.  After the excitement of the article about the well project, I want to tell you about several e-mails from Jackson.  In one he described his new position with Gamewatchers Safaris: “Gamewatchers have set up a mobile camp during the high season beside the main camp. I have been allocated to manage the camp, host the guests and do guiding.  I am very happy with the job. I have seven staff and most of our guests stay for three nights.”  (Oh, how I wish I were one of the guests right now!)

He went on to report, “The name of the camp is: Porini Amboseli Adventure camp.  A camp of the same kind is also there in the Mara.”

Most people on safari visit the Mara, in southern/slightly western Kenya.  From Amboseli, however, Mt. Kilimanjaro offers a splendid view.  One other thing I should mention — a tented camp when on safari is very different from a pup-tent set up in a backyard!

And the weather as Jackson reported it, “Very cold nights and mornings in the Amboseli and warmer in the day.” I think cold is relative.  My Weather Bug app tells me the nights are low 50s and the days mid-70s.  I find Kenyans downplay their weather, which seems to me to be perfect most of the year.  No seasons; just perfect!  But then, summer in the Washington, DC, area means hot and humid and winter often brings snow and ice.

More as Jackson has time to write and send photos of his new work location and hopefully some of his family when he returns home.
