Steve King and I were talking this morning and he mentioned that the number of latrines is really 100, not 20 as I wrote in the last post.  So here are the correct numbers: Three drilled wells capable of delivering 10,000 gallons of water per day and 100 latrines.

On July 4th Jackson wrote me, “Truly, it is a big dream for the villagers.  They can’t wait to see it happen.”  And, he said, “Patience is there.”  I rather think Americans are less patient.  Or is it just me…?

He also wrote, “The wildebeest just crossed the border a week ago. They are not yet close to the Mara River as they are coming from the south eastern part of the Mara, river in the west.  Any interesting sightings will reach you.”

What is this Great Migration?  The Great Migration of thousands of animals across the Serengeti-Mara region is one of the most fantastic spectacles of nature!  Imagine 200,000 zebra, 500,000 Thomson’s gazelle, and — can you believe? — 1,500,000 wildebeest, minus some that provide dinner for the waiting crocs and other carnivores.  I would love to see it but must be satisfied this year with reports from Jackson and others.  Click here for updated info. and a map and here for Paul Kirui’s blog with superb photos.  Paul is also on Facebook.
